Me in my element - whether outside (especially by the sea in Cornwall) or in my garden studio.

Colours, shapes, beauty, light – all spark a need to explore, understand and capture what I am observing.

Layering paint, scratching and scraping, sometimes wildly and other times carefully – enjoying the unexpected, the pentimento – with an aim to create a quiet energy and harmonious ‘stillness’ in the finished piece.

I love drawing, the possibilities of charcoal, messing with oil paint and being absorbed in the creative process.

Studied Fine Art and the History of Art as part of a Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of Natal, South Africa (1983-86); Graphic Design City & Guilds at the Berkshire College of Art & Design (1990-92). Worked as graphic designer at Oxford University Press in the educational / childrens’ books publicity department and continued as freelance designer in Oxford whilst raising a family and beyond.

Attended numerous courses and workshops in and around Oxford, Brookes University, Royal Academy of Art,
The School of Painting in St Ives, and online with The International Art2Life Creative Visionary Programme, Emily Ball at Seawhite, the
Penn Studio School and the Washington Art Center exploring various techniques and processes whilst developing my own style.

In 2016 I was accepted on the Intensive Porthmeor Programme at the School of Painting in St Ives and have exhibited with various galleries over the years, selected for juried exhibitions including the Art2Life International Exhibition, Oxford Art Society, the Royal Society of Marine Artists, and the New English Art Club in London.

I am a member of the Oxford Art Society (acted as the OAS Exhibitions Coordinator for 6 years) and have exhibited

widely around Oxfordshire, Cornwall and London.

‘An art which is not based on feeling isn’t art at all.
Feeling is the principle, the beginning and the end; craft, objective, technique... all these are in the middle.’
